72 years ago from today, in 1945, the United Nations officially came into action. It was started with the promise to be “devoted to making known to the people of the world the aims and achievements of the United Nations and to gain their support for” its work,” It is celebrated to remember the organization of the United Nations and its agenda of promoting human rights, diversity and progress across the world. The day in countries is celebrated as the public holiday, while some others celebrate with awareness programmes , cultural shows, etc where meetings and events that revolve around the various agendas of the United Nations are organized .
INDIA CELEBRATING THE UN BIRTHDAY
UN flag will be flying along with the national flag atop all important buildings in India today. The ministry said.
“The United Nations Flag is, however, not flown on Raj Bhawan / Raj Niwaas and buildings housing Legislative Councils, Legislative Assemblies and High Courts,” it said. However, October 24 started being celebrated as United Nations Day in 1948 since 1971.
